چکیده

This paper considers a technique for composing global (barrier-style) and local (channel scanning) synchronization protocols within a single parallel discrete-event simulation. Composition is attractive because it allows one to tailor the synchronization mechanism to the model being simulated. We first motivate the problem by showing the large performance gap that can be introduced by a mismatch of model and synchronization method. Our solution calls for each channel between submodels to be classified as synchronous or asynchronous. We mathematically formulate the problem of optimally classifying channels and show that, in principle, the optimal classification can be obtained in time proportional to maxfC logC; V Ng, where C is the number of channels, V the number of unique minimal delays on those channels, and N is the number of submodels. We then demonstrate an implementation which finds an optimal solution at runtime and consider its performance on network topologies, including one of the global internet at the autonomous system level. We find that the automated method effectively determines channel assignments that maximize

On the Trade-off between Time and Space in Optimistic Parallel Discrete-Event Simulation

Optimistically synchronized parallel discrete-event simulation is based on the use of communicating sequential processes. Optimistic synchronization means that the processes execute under the assumption that synchronization is fortuitous. Periodic checkpointing of the state of a process allows the process to roll back to an earlier state when synchronization errors occur. This paper examines th...

An Efficient Statistical Synchronization Method For Parallel Simulation

In this paper, we propose the improved Statistical Synchronization Method (SSM-T) for parallel discrete event simulation. Criteria are given for the time-driven approach (SSM-T). It is proven, that the level of the output error can be guaranteed. SSM-T is implemented in the OMNeT++ discrete event simulation tool, which is a useful and widespread framework for creating various simulation models ...

Behavior-aware Probabilistic Synchronization in Parallel Simulations and the Influence of the Simulation Model

Efficient event scheduling and synchronization constitutes an essential part of high-performance parallel discrete event simulation. Traditional synchronization approaches like conservative and optimistic synchronization focus on a simple scheduling paradigm based on a primitive set of rules. However, we argue that a sophisticated synchronization algorithm considering event interactions can rem...

Extensions to Time Warp Parallel Simulation for Spatial Decomposed Applications

In recent years, the use of discrete event simulation to solve problems from natural sciences has become more common as the dynamic time evolution of the real-world system is naturally incorporated in the discrete event system model. The parallel simulation of these discrete event systems puts some extra requirements on the parallel synchronization schemes such as Time Warp. The large scientifi...
